MASSENA, N.Y. – Arby’s roast beef sandwich lovers will be in mourning soon.

Manager Carl Lofberg told the Daily Courier-Observer he made the difficult decision to close the St. Lawrence Centre location July 31.

His decision was based on declining profits and increasing costs of minimum wage and health care coverage for employees. Lofberg cited the loss of Sears, which trimmed his profits by 20 per cent, he told the paper.

The Arby’s in the mall has been there since the mall opened in 1990, said Lofberg.

The location has roughly a half-dozen to 10 employees, the minority being full-time.

The next closest location is Potsdam, which he also owns, aling with Watertown, Fort Drum, and Lowville.

A marketing coordinator for the mall said they are actively working on finding a replacement tenant and there has been some interest.
