CORNWALL – Flames shot through the roof of a Second Street East four-plex early Saturday morning.
City firefighters were on the scene around 4:30 a.m. trying to put out the fire, which had crept into the roof of one of the units.
Witnesses say the most intense part of the fire battle happened for roughly 45 minutes.
Cornwall Fire Chief Pierre Voisine said the firefighters did an incredible job of getting the fire out quickly.
The apartment building is at the intersection of Adolphus Street and the area was closed to traffic for some time.
Flames could be seen shooting through the roof of one of the units of the building at 240-242 Second Street East.
It’s not known if there were any injuries.
The fire prevention office was on the scene shortly after 9:30 a.m. for an investigation into the cause of the fire.
A call to fire officials seeking more information has not been returned.
