KINGSTON, Ont. – Two Cornwall BMX riders came away from a national championship with a few trophies over the weekend.

Sam and Sophie Drouin – members of the Cornwall BMX Club – were at the Limestnoe City National in Kingston June 27.

Sam Drouin, 9, qualified for his first moto. He then finished second after taking an early lead but Deacon Haydar of Campbellville, Ont. found the extra energy to beat Drouin to the finish line.

In the second national race, Drouin finished third after a crash, tangling him up with Andrew Colling from Kingston.

Balance bike rider Sophie Drouin, 3, finished fourth in the first national and then first overall in the second national.

Both Drouin riders are sponsored by Team Unique Racing/Hyper Body Armour. Sam Drouin is ranked No. 2 in Ontario and No. 9 in Canada in his age group.
