Body recovered from St. Lawrence River

OGDENSBURG, N.Y. – Emergency officials in New York State have reportedly pulled a man’s body from the St. Lawrence River roughly 80 kliometers (50 miles) upstream from Cornwall, Ont.

Ogdensburg city police are investigating after the death of a man in his middle fifties, according to the Watertown Daily Times.

The St. Lawrence County coroner has identified the deceased as Brian M. Sharpe, 57, of Ford Street in Ogdesnburg, said the paper.

Officials had been conducting a missing persons search in the greenbelt area of the city in Morissette Park, across the river from Prescott, Ont. since Tuesday.

The park had been closed off to the public but reopened late this morning (Wednesday).

The body was found in 15 to 20 feet of water and the coroner told the Times that it looked like a drowning.

The unidentified man’s body has been taken to Albany, N.Y. for an autopsy.
