Two aboriginal bursaries added at St. Lawrence College

CORNWALL – Aboriginal students will have a couple extra opportunities to take advantage of a post-secondary education.

St. Lawrence College has added two bursaries to the existing Metis National Bursary award.

The Brown’s First Nations Opportunity Award will recognize students with a parent or grandparents who were survivors of a residential school.

The Patricia and Bernard Colfe Aboriginal First Generation Bursary is offered annually to a full-time aboriginal student at any of SLC’s three campuses.

“I have always found that a little bit of help can make a huge difference,” said award creator Tim Colfe. “This new bursary supports Ontario Aboriginal students and recognizes my late mother’s interest in aboriginal art, culture and history which she shared for more than 20 years working as a volunteer guide at the Museum of Man and the Canadian Museum of Civilization.”

June is National Aboriginal Month and Sunday (June 21) is National Aboriginal Day.
