AVONMORE – The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating a single vehicle crash north of Avonmore involving a police pursuit.

SD&G O.P.P. say their officers attempted to stop a pickup truck on Sixth Line in North Stormont (the former area known as Roxborough Township) around 2 a.m. Saturday.

That’s when the vehicle took off and officers gave chase with their emergency lights on.

The vehicle left the roadway and crashed shortly after.

A witness tells Cornwall Newswatch the vehicle was flipped in the ditch on Dewar Road, between Avonmore and Moose Creek.

The driver, 25, from Ottawa was arrested and taken to hospital where he’s being treated for moderate injuries.

The SIU is now taking over the case and was on the scene as late as 11 a.m. Saturday morning collecting evidence.

The Special Investigations Unit is involved anytime there is a civilian injury or death involving police.
