KEMPTVILLE – A bridge on Highway 416, just west of SD&G, will immortalize the life of an O.P.P. officer taken too soon.
Const. G. Alan Thompson died March 31, 1975 when his cruiser was hit by a freight train at an unmarked crossing while he was pursuing a speeding vehicle, south of Kemptville.
He was 35 and left behind a wife and two children.
The North Grenville Bridge has been dedicated to Const. Thompson with signs showing the officer’s name and police service crest.
Thompson was posted to the Kemptville O.P.P. detachment.
The province has dedicated 58 highway structures, such as bridges, in honour of fallen police officers and military police since 2002.
