SD&SG – A Lunenburg professor and farmer will represent the New Democrats in SDSG.

Patrick Burger is a professor at John Abbott College for 18 years and has been approved by the national NDP nominations committee to run.

He’s pretty much a shoe-in as Burger is the only approved candidate in the riding.

Burger owns a 45 acre farm on Willy Allan Road with his wife Amanda.

Fluent in English French and German, he has a Master of Arts in English Literature from Concordia University and is completing his PhD studies.

Burger is concerned about a lack of an agriculture distribution network in the riding, an industry he says produced $878 million of profit, based on 2010 statistics.

The NDP nomination meeting will be held May 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the Navy Veterans Association at 30 Sixth Street East.

The nomination portion of the meeting will be mostly a formality, as Burger will be acclaimed.

But NDP Riding Association President Brian Lynch tells Cornwall Newswatch there will be a lot of business conducted, including lining up volunteers and campaign planning ahead of the Oct. 19 vote.
