CORNWALL – A convicted sex offender, who was the subject of a community safety alert in September, has been arrested after breaking his probation.

William Gates, 68, was arrested yesterday (Monday) for allegedly communicating with a person under 16 and failing to keep the peace.

Police allege Gates spoke to a three-year-old girl while on a city bus and the police were called.

Gates is being held for a bail hearing.

He was released into the community in September after serving a nine month jail sentence for possession of child pornography.
