CORNWALL – Workers started unscrewing and taking down the mural on the northeast corner at Pitt and Second Streets Thursday, signaling the beginning of construction for Dominion Place.

The murals are being stored away with the help of Heart of the City. Plans for where they’ll end up have not been made public.

In November, developer Ron Chenier told the Cornwall Planning Advisory Committee (PAC) he planned to start construction in the spring.

City council approved the condo plan in December. However, PAC will be getting another update on Monday night.

The next phase will be the construction of the steel framing for the building which is not expected to affect traffic or sidewalks, says a PAC report. The site will be closed in using plywood walls around the property.

The four-storey complex will feature luxury condos of 2,300-2,500 square feet and will have three ground-floor commercial units.

It should be completed by the spring of 2016.

The property has been a cement pad since a glass-fronted office building, originally proposed in 2006, fell through right around the time of the global recession in 2008.
