More natural gas smell problems in Long Sault

LONG SAULT – A problem with the natural gas system in Long Sault has cropped up again prompting an advisory from Union Gas.

The company was addressing numerous reports of rotten egg smell in the village Tuesday.

Spokeswoman Andrea Stass says there was an “unintended over-introduction of an odourant (called) mercaptan into the local gas supply.”

There are no gas leaks, says the utility.

A similar problem happened at this time last month where the company had to burn off a large amount of natural gas from a pipe behind the Long Sault Arena.

If you’re still concerned about a possible leak, you’re asked to call the 24-hour emergency line at 1-877-969-0999.
