RIVERSIDE HEIGHTS – Fire has destroyed a single-storey home on County Road 41, just north of here.

The flames ripped through the building at 13394 County Road 41 around 6:30 p.m. Sunday night creating a spectacle for passersby on Highway 401.

County Road 41 runs parallel on the north side of the Macdonald-Cartier Freeway between County Road 8 and Upper Canada Road in South Dundas.

All three South Dundas stations were on the scene with the Morrisburg station arriving first, about 16 minutes after the call came in.

“A defensive attack was made to knock down the flames and the fire was under control within an hour,” Fire Chief Chris McDonough tells Cornwall Newswatch.

Firefighters wrapped up at the scene around 9 p.m.

There were no injuries.

McDonough says, according to his crew, the family was sitting in a newer addition of the home and were not aware a fire had started in another older section of the home.

It’s believed the Canadian Red Cross is helping out the family until they can make arrangements for living.

The Ontario Fire Marshal was notified but won’t be attending the scene, says McDonough.

The fire caused roughly $150,000 damage.

The homeowners did have insurance.

The cause is undetermined.
