SD&G – It’s a road to better efficiency at the United Counties.
The county is merging its roads and planning departments, creating a new section at 22 Pitt Street called “Transportation and Planning Services.”
The move comes as county planner Michael Otis retired and the county decided not to fill the position, instead creating a mid-level manager of planning who will oversee the day-to-day operations of the new department.
The changes were approved this month and that new manager of planning will report to county engineer Ben de Haan, who assumes the title of Director of Transportation and Planning Services.
“It is always important to be looking for efficiency when opportunities come up, and these changes to our senior management team demonstrate our commitment to that. There are cost savings and many synergies, both internally and to the public, to be gained by the merging of the two departments,” says United Counties Warden Eric Duncan.
SD&G didn’t specify exactly how much would be saved through the move, though it says the level of service to the public won’t be affected.
