INGLESIDE – A portion of the eight kilometers of the nature trails at the Upper Canada Migratory Bird Sanctuary will be getting rebuilt later this year.

MP Guy Lauzon was at the facility Friday to announce $45,000 from the National Trails Infrastructure Program, which will go toward phase one of the project.

One of the heaviest-used trails – the Red Wing Trail – will see 500 feet (155 meters) of the trail redesigned and will be widened to six feet (182 centimeters) to make it more accessible.

Some of the trails have been decaying and were flagged with yellow caution tape several months ago.

The entire first phase of the plan will cost $120,000.

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission is also putting in $69,000 and the Friends of the Sanctuary is adding $6,000 from its “Get on Board” fundraiser.
