CORNWALL – St. Lawrence College will have clear-cut guidelines by the end of March on what people should do if they’re the victim or see a sexual assault on campus.
SLC is one of two dozen Ontario colleges endorsing a Sexual Assault and Sexual Violence Policy and Protocol.
Consultations are underway with stakeholders, such as student leaders and government officials, to create the policy and have it in place by March 31.
The colleges are looking for the government to take steps, such as having a 24-hour emergency hotline and changes to allow better sharing of information between colleges and police.
“Protecting our students and everyone on our campuses is essential,” said Glenn Vollebregt, President and CEO of St. Lawrence College. “The new policy and protocol will help ensure that clear information is widely available and that there is immediate and effective help for victims of sexual assaults.”
