CORNWALL – A section of Highway 401 has reopened after a deadly crash this morning (Tuesday).
The victims in the morning wreck in the eastbound lanes of the highway, between McConnell Avenue and Boundary Road, have been identified.
SD&G O.P.P. say Robert Springer, 54, of Cornwall (age corrected at source from earlier report of 44) and his passenger Daniel Figura, 22, of Dollard-Des-Ormeaux, Que. were killed when their car and a tractor-trailer collided.
The truck driver – a 47-year-old man from Brampton – was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The section of road has been closed since 6 a.m. but reopened at 12:30 p.m.
O.P.P. Const. Joel Doiron tells Cornwall Newswatch accident reconstruction experts are still working on the case and it’s too early to say whether charges will be laid.
Doiron is urging anyone who may have seen the crash to call them at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
