Decrease a starting point for SD&G budget

SD&G – With two days set aside in late February, the United Counties is going into budget talks already looking at an overall decrease.

The draft budget brings in an overall savings of about $10 a year for the average homeowner.

Treasurer Vanessa Bennett outlined to counties council Monday it was a good starting point for discussions.

The roads department makes up one of the largest chunks of the financial blueprint and the purse strings took a hit of nearly a quarter million dollars last year due to plowing during a harsh winter.

The preliminary roads budget is looking at an increase of approximately four per cent over 2014.
