MASSENA, N.Y. – Two Akwesasne men are facing charges of hunting deer out of season.
U.S. conservation police responded to a complaint of two people illegally hunting on Barnhart Island, which is also a New York State park.
Officers found a boat Dec. 18 tied to a tree and waited until the men arrived where the two suspects admitted they had been hunting, according to the Malone Telegram.
Charged are Harvey Thompson Jr., 46, and Ryan T. Jacobs, 34, both of Akwesasne.
Both made court appearances Wednesday.
According to the paper, a conservation officer said, in court records, that both suspects had been trying to fill their freezers to give them food through the winter.
Both men had been unsuccessful in finding game before they met law enforcement.
