MORRISBURG – A fund raising race for the Canadian Cancer Society at Upper Canada Village has been cancelled for this winter.

The society says it had to pull the plug on getting the event off the ground this season “due to several unforeseen circumstances,” reads a statement on its Facebook page.

It’s hoped a winter fundraiser, as a way for the society to build on its summer “Relay for Life” event, will be launched in 2016.

The St. Lawrence Parks Commission, which was slated to host the race on Jan. 31, says it was excited about hosting the first-ever Spartan style race and hopes it will host a winter event for the society at Upper Canada Village.

The Canadian Cancer Society says it will be publicizing the new winter event sometime in the summer or fall of 2015.
