Cornwall Centre Rd. will stay closed during winter: MTO

CORNWALL – Hopes that motorists would be able to drive the entire length of Cornwall Centre Road during the winter have been dashed.

The Ministry of Transportation says the road near the bridge will stay closed until the eastbound Highway 401 overpass is replaced.

The original plan was to reopen Cornwall Centre Road during the winter.

The good news is for motorists on Highway 401, where the ministry says the highway will have all four lanes open starting today (Friday).

A $14.2 million dollar project to replace two overpasses on Highway 401 at Cornwall Centre Road hit a snag this summer.

Toronto-based Aecon Construction was only able to complete one of two bridge replacements by Nov. 4. The entire project was to be completed by Oct. 31.

The traffic bottleneck of two lanes on Highway 401 will return in the spring when Aecon comes back from its winter shutdown to replace the eastbound overpass.
