LONG SAULT – A report before South Stormont councillors Wednesday night is recommending a overnight parking ban on municipal roads during the winter months.
The township has tried to issue warnings in the past under the Highway Traffic Act but it’s had minimal success, states Municipal Law Enforcement Officer Andrew Downing.
The proposal would prohibit parking overnight from Nov. 1 to April 1 from midnight until 7 a.m.
“(It) would alleviate this issue (access to the roads) for the plow operators and emergency vehicles,” Downing writes.
The fine for violators would be $35.
Once councillors weigh in and the recommendations are put together for changes to the parking bylaw, it could be back in council’s hands to be passed next month.
South and North Dundas already have winter overnight parking bans on municipal roads.
