CORNWALL – Cornwall firefighters were ripping the side off a home in the 300 block of Eighth Street West after a fire re-started in a wall.
The Cornwall Fire Department was called around 2:15 p.m. to the two-storey duplex at 330-332 Eighth Street West.
Four fire trucks were on the scene.
This was the second fire at this address after an initial blaze broke out roughly 12 hours before.
Firefighters had to use chainsaws and axes to cut into both the exterior and interior walls of one unit of the duplex.
Smoke could be seen puffing out of the siding as workers pulled mounds of insulation out of the wall, mostly in the second storey of the home.
A fire hose also snaked through the front entrance and up the staircase of the house.
Some local traffic was able to leave the area but one of the fire pumpers was blocking the intersection at Eighth Street West and Bedford Street, to keep traffic off the one-way street.
The fire department was wrapping up it’s work just before 4 p.m. and a fire restoration service was already on scene.
