CORNWALL/SD&G – With wind gusts topping 50 km/h, overhead electrical wires are being put to the test Monday night in Cornwall and SD&G.
City firefighters and Cornwall Electric crews were called to the 50 block of Race Street for a transformer that was shorting out.
Firefighters were on the scene just before 8 p.m. to supervise the arcing wire and keep people away until Cornwall Electric crews arrived by 8:35 p.m. to make a repair.
Power in the area didn’t appear to be affected.
Meanwhile, in the United Counties, the howling wind has knocked down a tree on hydro wires around Morrisburg.
Around 100 Hydro One customers were affected just east of the town but were expected to have their power back on by 9 p.m.
