CORNWALL – Provincial police have released more details on a wreck that tied up the westbound lanes of Highway 401 west of here for several hours last night.

Police say a 22-year-old man from Granby, Quebec was driving west when his Freightliner transport collided with a broken down dump truck parked at the side of the highway. Another transport in the passing lane was caught up in the initial collision.

The driver of Freightliner had minor injuries, according to police.

Highway 401 westbound was closed from Brookdale Avenue to Moulinette Road in Long Sault from 5:45 p.m. until late in the evening and traffic was detoured. Others past Brookdale Avenue had to endure the long wait on the freeway.

Road crews also had to clean up tar spilled from one of the trucks.

SD&G O.P.P. say their investigation is continuing and there’s no word on charges.
