LONG SAULT, Ont. — A Long Sault charity run to commemorate the life of Heather Saaltink is wrapping up at the request of the family. In a statement to the Cornwall Multisport Club, which organizes the early November event, President Rick Croney thanked the volunteers and others who have helped raise over $70,000 over five years. Roughly 400 runners on average would come from Montreal, Ottawa, Brockville and Lakehead University, where Heather was a student. The 22-year-old was killed in 2008 during a collision on Highway 138 with a pickup truck driven by a drunk driver. Croney also thanked the Saaltink family for allowing the club the opportunity to celebrate Heather’s life through the event.

After five years and over $70,000 raised for charity the Heather Saaltink Memorial Run is ending at the request of the family.
On behalf of the Saaltink family and the Cornwall Multisport Club, I would like to thank our many volunteers who have helped to support this event, without you we could not have done it. Also the various sponsors who have supported this run: Arrive Alive, MADD Township of South Stormont, the Ontario Provincial Police & Auxiliary, Cornwall Wendy’s Restaurant, Stormont Dairy Farmers, Cristill Rock, Allstate Insurance, No Frills Grocers and the Upper Canada District School Board & Longue Sault Public School. Just to name a few.
We would also like to thank all the runners who turned out to brave the conditions. Many traveling from Montreal, Ottawa, Brockville and of course Lakehead University.
Mostly, I would like to thank the Saaltink family, Robyn, Emma, Brenda and Rik for allowing us the opportunity to celebrate Heather through this event.
