Thousands without power in SD&G after wind storm

SD&G – Thousands of customers in SD&G are without power this afternoon (Wednesday) after a wind storm raked the region.

Hydro One reports around 6,000 customers are without power in an area from west of Ingleside, north to Newington, Avonmore and Moose Creek, and east to Martintown and Apple Hill.

The estimated time of restoration is 4:30-5 p.m.

While Hydro One didn’t say what the exact cause was, wind topping 90 kilometers an hour has been buffeting SD&G most of the day.

At Tagwi Secondary School, officials posted on social media that the school was running on a backup generator and classes were continuing as normal.

A wind warning is still in effect this afternoon (corrected from earlier version saying wind warning was cancelled).
