CORNWALL – A Cornwall man had to spend one more day in jail this week after being found guilty on three sex-related charges after assaulting an acquaintance.

The one day jail sentence for Prasath Kanasamoorthy was handed down Wednesday (March 1) in a Cornwall court.

The sentence also took into account that Kanasamoorthy had already spent nearly a year in jail waiting for his day in court (350 days).

He had been charged with sexual assault, invitation to sexual touching and sexual intervention.

An unidentified male victim had come forward to police in March 2016 and told police he had been sexually assaulted in 2012. The man had been under the age of 16 at the time of the assault.

The victim and Kanasamoorthy knew each other, police said at the time.

Kanasamoorthy was arrested March 30, 2016.

In addition to the jail sentence, he will be on two years probation and has a 10 year weapons ban. He also has to submit a DNA sample and pay a Victim Fine Surcharge of $300.
