Finch man facing child pornography charges

FINCH – A man from Finch is facing three child pornography-related charges following an investigation by the O.P.P. Child Sexual Exploitation Unit.

The unit was assisted by the Technological Crime Unit and SD&G O.P.P. when the suspect was arrested on Wednesday (Jan. 25).

Acting Detective Sgt. Tim Brown told Cornwall Newswatch their investigation started about a couple of months ago after a tip was received through the RCMP’s National Child Exploitation Coordination Center (NCECC).

“It’s the clearing house for all tips that come through say, the United States, or internationally. All tips coming in from international means would go through the NCECC and they would then identify the jurisdiction and would send it to that jurisdiction, in this case us,” Brown said.

There were three devices seized – one mobile device and two “more stationary devices from the home.”

“They’ve been sent for additional forensic examination,” Brown said.

Nicholas Strand, 29, is facing two counts of possession of child pornography and one count of making child pornography available.

Strand appeared in a Cornwall court for a bail hearing today (Jan. 30).
