Drunk driver strikes light pole near Cornwall intersection

CORNWALL – A Cornwall man is facing three alcohol and drug-related charges after a van struck a light pole overnight at a Cornwall intersection.

One resident told Cornwall Newswatch they were awoken around 2 a.m. to a really loud noise and discovered a van on the wrong side of the road up against the pole.

The crash happened near the intersection of Fifth Street and Cumberland Street.

Cornwall police say the driver was drunk when they arrested him on scene. Officers also found some marijuana.

A 21-year-old Cornwall man is charged with impaired driving, over 80 and possession of marijuana. He was later released with a January court date.
