SD&G – The county has hired a tourism coordinator, setting the course for the upper-tier municipality to market itself outside the region and beyond.

Shauna Baggs, who has worked in the economic development department the last eight years, has been hired for the position, SD&G CAO Tim Simpson announced Thursday.

“I am excited to launch the SDG tourism program and market our extensive array of cultural, sport, recreation and historical assets, services, and events in our community,” Baggs said.

“I look forward to working with all community partners and organizations by creating a network of communication that positions our region as a first class destination.”

Baggs’ first official day is Monday (Oct. 31).

Some of the first items on her agenda will be a tourism signing program and marketing the historic Cornwall Jail.

In May, the county decided to bring tourism services in house, cutting its $83,000 yearly relationship with Cornwall and the Counties Tourism.
