LANCASTER – If you are interested in becoming a firefighter in South Glengarry, you only have a couple more days to submit an application.

The latest recruitment drive deadline for residents who want to be volunteer firefighters is Wednesday (April 20).

Applicants will go through a series of tests – an aptitude test, agility test and an interview – as part of the recruitment process.

The recruitment drive will happen on Saturday morning at the Lancaster station at 8 a.m.

Acting Fire Chief Dave Robertson says the volunteer position is more than just firefighting – it’s participating in public education, fire prevention and fundraising activities.

There are five stations in South Glengarry: Glen Walter, Martintown, Williamstown, Lancaster and North Lancaster.

Last year, there were 19 people – 17 men and two women – for the recruitment drive.

There are roughly 120 volunteer firefighters in South Glengarry.

You will find the application forms here and more on the recruitment drive here.

You can also pick up copies at the Lancaster township office on Oak Street.
