CORNWALL – After 32 years being a bus driver for Cornwall Transit, George Secord has seen a number of changes.

But safety has been the underlying theme of his career – almost a sixth sense.

“When you’re driving you are so focused that you see all the little things coming,” Second said. “It’s a very rewarding job.”

Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy, Coun. Elaine MacDonald, CAO Norm Levac and other city officials presented pins and certificates to workers at the transit office on Second Street West this morning (Wednesday).

More than a dozen operators and transit personnel were recognized during the 20th installment of the Safe Driver/Safe Worker Award Breakfast.

Drivers put a collective one million kilometers on the odometer every year in Cornwall.

Cornwall Transit Division Manager Len Tapp said maintenance personnel also have a excellent safety record.

The public transit system is projected to log more then 800,000 individual trips in 2015.
