SD&G – You may see quite a bit of “hunter orange” around SD&G starting today (Monday).
The white-tailed deer gun hunting season is underway and will last two weeks (it closes Nov. 15).
Bow hunting happens from Nov. 16-29 and Dec. 7-31.
There’s a quota of roughly 2,600 tags to harvest antlerless deer (does) in Wildlife Management Unit 65 (Eastern Ontario), based on the 2014 numbers provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources.
The doe tags are given out in a lottery.
That doesn’t include the hundreds of hunters who have paid $47 to buy a licence to shoot a buck (a male deer).
O.P.P. are also advising hunters to be safe and mindful before heading out for the hunt each day.
Police will be working in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources to check on hunters.
