CORNWALL – A tradition to encourage blood donations will be happening next week.
The annual Mayor-Media and Childhood Cancer Awareness Month Blood Donor Clinic will be happening in the salons of the civic complex on Tuesday, Sept. 1.
It runs from noon until 3:30 p.m. and again from 5 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.
Canadian Blood Services is hoping to have over 300 donors.
“During the summer months, we all change our routines and take vacations, so donating blood isn’t always top of mind. Meanwhile, daily in our region, there are hospital patients who can’t take vacations requiring blood transfusions for surgeries, cancer treatments and other procedures,” notes Mayor Leslie O’Shaughnessy.
The mayor also thanked the media for their continued support of the clinic.
The donors in the Cornwall-area can also be thankful as Cornwall is the only city in Northern and Eastern Ontario with a donor base strong enough to support a monthly clinic. In other centers, clinics are run every 56 days.
With roughly 4,000 children requiring blood and platelet transfusions as they undergo cancer treatment, CBS is also shining a light on Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.
