Valspar employee’s daughter receives scholarship award

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – The daughter of a Cornwall Valspar employee is receiving a post-secondary scholarship award from the Valspar Foundation.

Abigail Yates, daughter of Ian Yates, will be receiving $2,000 in August to help pay for her studies as she pursues Science at Queen’s University in Kingston.

The foundation announced $64,000 in awards Tuesday for exceptional students, recognizing scholastic and community achievement by the sons and daughters of Valspar employees.

“Valspar is pleased to support these exemplary students who have demonstrated high achievement in the classroom and noted service in their communities,” said Gary E. Hendrickson, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Valspar.

Yates was the only Canadian recipient.

Valspar on Second Street West is a manufacturer of industrial wood coatings and has 100 employees.
