ALEXANDRIA – Roughly 300 people showed up Tuesday night at Glengarry District High School to hear and see student talent and also raise money for the local hospice.

In the end, $6,000 was raised for Hospice Cornwall during the second annual Power of Talent fundraiser.

The joint fundraiser between GDHS and Char-Lan District High School was the brainchild of Paisley Robertson in gratitude to the hospice for caring for her mother, who died of cancer.

Robertson, along with the help of GDHS teacher Ed Stewart and CDHS teacher Kathryn Danaher-McDonell, spearheaded this year’s fundraiser, organizing a team of nearly 70 students from both schools tasked with a range of duties from promotions to stage crew.

Performances included vocalist Katrina Sauer, who sang the Rihanna song Stay, soloist Francesca Keene who sang Cee Lo Green’s Forget You, the FX dance group, and the Kilts on Fire Celtic rock band.

Organizers, already planning for next year’s event, say they might hold it earlier in the year to take advantage of corporate donations before businesses set their philanthropic budgets.
