CORNWALL – Employees at Valspar in the city’s west end got a mid-afternoon break from work after a small fire.

“We had a little episode with a small fire in a mixer. It was contained. The guys put it out in a matter of seconds,” Plant Manager Mike Sullivan tells Cornwall Newswatch.

Sullivan says they wanted the fire department to check the area to make sure everything was safe.

All the employees were evacuated without incident just after 3 p.m.

Firefighters wrapped up their work about an hour later and workers were back on the job shortly after.

The 67,000 square foot plant at 1915 Second Street West, which manufactures industrial wood coatings, has roughly 100 employees.
