BRINSTON – A turbine at the South Branch Wind Farm has reportedly been shut down after the sudden failure of the main bearing.
The bearing is between the rotor and generator and is what allows the rotor to turn and generate power.
The affected turbine – the north unit on the Thurler farm in South Dundas – will remain offline until repairs are complete while the other nine turbines will remain online.
EDP Renewables North America is working closely with the manufacturer, Siemen’s Canada, who will cover the cost, according to Eastern Ontario AgriNews.
“This is a repair that is being made to a product that is under warranty,” spokesman Adam Renz told AgriNews.
EDP expects repairs will commence over the next few months, and take two to three weeks to complete.
