Former Cornwall council candidate dies

CORNWALL – A former candidate for Cornwall city council in the 2010 municipal election has died.

Pat Finnerty died Wednesday (Dec. 31) with his family by his side at the age of 79.

The native of Timmins, Ont. is survived by wife, four children and several grandchildren.

In 2010, Finnerty ran a $100 campaign on a message of change and garnered 1,172 votes in the city municipal election.

At the time, he complained that “big money” and “fat cats” ran the city.

Visitation is being held Sunday at McArthur Bros. & MacNeil Funeral Home and Chapel on Second Street East in Cornwall.

A funeral mass is on Monday at 1 p.m. at St. Columban Roman Catholic Church on Fourth Street West.
