SD&G – The cost for companies to ship their goods through the St. Lawrence Seaway will be going up next year.
The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation has announced tolls will be going up two per cent in 2015.
Shippers had just been dealt a 2.5 per cent rate increase in 2014.
Right now, the cost of cargo is anywhere from 64 cents (grain and coal) to $2.54 (general cargo) per metric ton.
A new schedule of tolls will be posted on the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System website the first week of January.
It’s not clear whether tolls for pleasure craft (right now a $30 toll per lock) will be affected.
The Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System is 3,700 kilometers long and has 13 Canadian and two U.S. locks.
