AKWESASNE, Que. – The Mohawk Council of Akwesasne will be receiving nearly three quarters of a million dollars Monday from the Quebec government.
Dignitaries will be at the Kanatakon Child Care Center on Park Street in Snye, Quebec to sign a political memorandum of understanding.
The so-called Political Protocol Agreement will also see the Quebec government give $723,000 to Akwesasne from its Aboriginal Initiatives Fund (AIF).
On its website, the Quebec government says the main objective of the AIF is to support those projects that may have major spin-offs on the development of Quebec’s Aboriginal communities.
Among the dignitaries for Monday’s signing are Quebec Minister of Aboriginal Affairs Geoffrey Kelley, National Assembly Minister Stephane Billette (Huntingdon), Akwesasne Grand Chief Mike Mitchell and MCA Economic Development Director Jim Ransom.
