CORNWALL – Two Cornwall Electric line crews have been gone since Thursday, helping to restore power to an area of New York State badly hit by a late-fall snowstorm.

Roughly 45,000 customers were without power in the Hudson Valley around Poughkeepsie, New York, about 130 kilometers north of New York City.

The area was hit with up to 30 centimeters of heavy, wet snow starting Wednesday through Thursday.

Cornwall Electric’s Shane Laframboise, Rod McLeod, Josh Cook and Al Leger made the trek down to help restore power for Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. customers.

The utility had been dealing with nearly 1,200 reports of downed wires after the storm, according to the Poughkeepsie Journal.

The Journal reports that nearly all customers had been restored as of 6:45 p.m. Saturday night.

Cornwall’s four men were about 400 line workers from across multiple states and Canada who were called on to help.
