CORNWALL – While city police are still investigating a stabbing near the Rotary Traffic Circle Wednesday night, a spokesman suggested they aren’t actively searching for a suspect.
Cornwall firefighters, police and paramedics were called to the Brookdale Avenue circle just after 7 p.m. for a man in distress on the front lawn of Ramada Cornwall.
“We received a call from someone in relation to a man in distress so there was somebody that called it in. So as far as somebody else on the scene, it was not in the report, so I would have to say no,” Cornwall Police Chief Dan Cloutier said.
EMS Chief Myles Cassidy said the man was taken to hospital with no vital signs.
He later died of his injuries.
Const. Cloutier was asked whether they are searching for someone.
“No. The matter is still under investigation and pending more new information, police don’t
have a suspect at this time,” Cloutier told Cornwall Newswatch.
Cloutier said more details may be released later today as they wait for results of an autopsy.
Ramada Cornwall general manager Scott Lecky told the Standard-Freeholder guests at the hotel were affected because some were not able to get to their vehicles, either to leave or to get personal items.
But he says patrons were more-or-less curious about what was happening.
A large section of the Brookdale traffic circle was cordoned off overnight but the area reopened to traffic Thursday morning.
A cruiser is still on scene with the front lawn of Ramada Cornwall still boxed off with police tape.
