SOUTH STORMONT, Ont. – The province’s police watchdog is investigating after SD&G O.P.P. officers tasered an armed man in South Stormont, west of Cornwall, this morning. SD&G O.P.P. say their officers were called to a home on Myers Road at 9:14 a.m. for a report of a suspicious person. There, they found a man with blood on his shirt and “injuries to his torso.” The man was armed with what police are calling an edged weapon. An officer used a taser to disarm and subdue the suspect, say police. He was taken to hospital by paramedics. His identity and condition are not known.

The SD&G O.P.P. contacted the province’s Special Investigations Unit, which is taking over the case. The SIU is a civilian law enforcement agency, independent of the police, that conducts criminal investigations into circumstances involving police and civilians that have resulted in serious injury, death or allegations of sexual assault.
